Looking after your oral health
Improve your oral health with regular visits to our hygienist
Gum disease/Periodontal disease is a huge problem amongst adults and is one of our most common issues.
It is often undiagnosed, usually the patient will start to see bleeding gums when brushing their teeth, if not properly managed it is one of the major causes of tooth loss.
To maintain and promote good dental hygiene, it's essential that you pay regular visits to a qualified dental hygienist. At Timperley Village Dental, our skilled hygienist team will give your teeth a professional clean leaving your mouth feeling fresher and more healthy.
Not only does dental hygiene care help you maintain a healthy mouth, but it improves the appearance of your teeth and gums. Our professional team will help you reduce the appearance of stains, discolouration and tooth decay.

What happens at a hygienist appointment?
Hygienists are important members of the dental team, providing professional teeth and gum cleaning, a process called scaling and polishing. At the beginning of the appointment your hygienist will carry out dental hygiene examination, taking measurements of your gums, plaque levels and noting any areas of bleeding.
They will then:
- Scale your teeth to remove any plaque or tartar build-up in those areas brushing cannot reach
- If required, perform a deeper clean below the gum line to help treat gum disease
- Polish your teeth to remove any superficial stains
- Provide tailored advice on how to maintain a good oral health routine and demonstrate techniques you can use at home
Your hygienist can spot signs of gum disease and will offer to refer you to a periodontist if they see anything that needs further treatment.
AirFlow Treatment
Timperley Village Dental Practice is thrilled to use AirFlow polishing for our hygienist treatments.
AirFlow is a powerful new technology that uses a combination of jet water, air and sodium bicarbonate to provide a first-class clean.
There are a few benefits to using AirFlow:
- The most effective way of removing stains from your teeth
- It's pain-free
- Improve the efficiency of teeth whitening
- Minimally invasive
- Gently cleans around implants, crowns and veneers
How often should I visit a hygienist?
It very much depends on your personal clinical needs. If your teeth are prone to gum disease, you may have to visit more often than others. However, even those with generally healthy teeth should still visit the hygienists every six months.
